Chevrolet Captiva EV and Plug-In Hybrid Make Middle East Debut

Chevrolet has taken a major step toward electrification in the region with the launch of two new models: the Captiva Electric Vehicle (EV) and the Captiva Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV). Announced in late September 2025, these new additions expand the popular Captiva lineup and mark Chevrolet Captiva EV entry into the growing EV and hybrid market in the Middle East.

For years, the Captiva has been known as a family-friendly SUV that combines practicality, space, and affordability. With these new variants, Chevrolet is focusing on making electric mobility more accessible for families across the UAE and beyond, offering a mix of performance, comfort, and sustainability.

The traditional Captiva remains part of the lineup with its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine delivering 149 hp. It continues to offer seven-seat capacity and comes in trims such as LS, LT, Premier, and Midnight Edition. This ensures that customers who prefer conventional petrol power still have familiar options.

The biggest highlight of the announcement is the Captiva EV, Chevrolet’s first fully electric version of the SUV. It is powered by a 60-kWh lithium battery that produces 201 hp and offers an estimated 415 km driving range (NEDC) on a single charge, ideal for both city use and longer weekend drives.

Charging has also been made convenient. With fast-charging capability, the Captiva EV can reach 80% charge in just 45 minutes, or gain around 75 km of range in only 10 minutes. Every Captiva EV comes equipped with a Level 1 portable charger, a 7 kW wallbox for home use, and a Type 2 cable, making it easier for owners to charge wherever they are.

For drivers not yet ready to go fully electric, the Captiva Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) offers the perfect middle ground. It combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5-kWh battery, together delivering 201 hp and an impressive 1,000 km total range (NEDC).

Drivers can choose between three driving modes

  • EV
  • HEV
  • EV MAX

And four performance settings: ECO, ECO+, Standard, and Sport. Charging options include Level 1 and Level 2 (3.3 kW) home charging, as well as DC fast charging up to 24 kW, providing flexibility for different driving habits.

Both the Captiva EV and PHEV have received a refresh in design, appearing longer and wider than before. The bold front fascia, modern LED lighting, and refined body lines reflect Chevrolet’s evolving design language.

Inside, the cabin has been redesigned to emphasize comfort and practicality. Both models now offer five seats with up to 532 litres of cargo space, enough for family luggage or weekend shopping trips. The leatherette upholstery in black or beige adds a premium touch, while high-quality trims and soft-touch materials make the interior feel more refined.

Available colours include Galaxy White, Laser Grey, Shadow Golden, Dawn Blue, Khaki Green, and Red Metallic. The EV version also offers an optional two-tone roof for a sportier appearance.

Technology remains a core part of the new Captiva experience. The LT trim includes a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with an 8.8-inch digital driver cluster. The Premier trim steps it up further with a 15.6-inch display, panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, 360° camera, and a full suite of driver-assistance systems.

These advanced systems include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, and lane departure assist, ensuring a safer and smoother drive for every journey.

Both EV and PHEV models come standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless entry, cruise control, folding electric mirrors, and four airbags, blending everyday practicality with the latest convenience and safety technologies.

With the debut of the Captiva EV and PHEV, Chevrolet is clearly steering toward a more sustainable automotive future in the Middle East. These models show how electric and hybrid vehicles can be both affordable and family-oriented, without compromising performance or comfort.

As more UAE drivers explore EV options, the Captiva’s latest lineup offers a smart entry point into electric driving, practical, stylish, and ready for the road ahead.
