Dubai Mall New Parking System: AED 150 Fine for Violations

Dubai continues to enhance its urban infrastructure by launching a seamless, barrier-free parking system at major shopping malls. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow, enhance convenience for shoppers, and ensure compliance with the new parking regulations.

The first mall to introduce this innovative parking system is City Centre Deira, with the Mall of the Emirates set to follow in February. The shift aligns with Dubai’s commitment to smart city initiatives, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience for visitors.

The barrier-free system operates through automated plate recognition technology:

  • Upon entering the parking area, cameras capture the vehicle’s license plate number.
  • The system records the exact time of entry and exit to calculate the applicable parking fee.
  • An SMS notification is sent to the motorist with a payment link.
  • Payments can be made conveniently through the Parkin mobile app (available on Android and iOS), the website, or kiosks within the malls.

This new method eliminates the need for physical parking tickets, ensuring a completely digital and hassle-free process.

One of the key concerns for shoppers is whether the new system will lead to increased parking fees. However, authorities have assured that the charges remain unchanged.

  • City Centre Deira offers three hours of free parking.
  • Mall of the Emirates provides four hours of free parking.
  • Motorists exceeding the free parking duration can have their tickets validated if they spend above a specified amount.
  • Dubai Mall offers free parking for the first 4 hours on weekdays and 6 hours on weekends.
  • The parking fee during the weekdays at Dubai Mall goes as 0-4 hours: Free, 4-5 hours: AED 20, 5-6 hours: AED 60, 6-7 hours: AED 80, 7-8 hours: AED 100, over 8 hours: AED 200, over 12 hours: AED 500, over 24 hours: AED 1,000
  • The parking fee on the weekends, at Dubai Mall goes as, 0-6 hours: Free, 6-7 hours: AED 80, 7-8 hours: AED 100, over 8 hours: AED 200, over 12 hours: AED 500, over 24 hours: AED 1,000
  • The fine for unpaid parking at Dubai Mall: is AED 150 (if not paid within 3 days), however, the overstaying allowed time is: AED 100
  • Dubai Mall uses an automated parking system where cameras track your vehicle’s entry and exit times. Parking fees are automatically deducted from your Salik account.
  • A purchase of AED 150 or more qualifies for extended free parking.
  • Visitors purchasing tickets at Vox Cinemas or Ski Dubai receive an additional two hours of free parking.
  • Parking remains free on weekends and public holidays.

These measures ensure that regular shoppers and visitors enjoy a cost-effective parking solution while maintaining a smoother traffic flow within mall premises.

To ensure proper compliance, the new system includes a structured penalty mechanism for those who fail to pay parking fees on time:

  • Motorists have three days to complete the payment to avoid fines.
  • If payment is not made within two days, a reminder SMS is sent.
  • If unpaid after three days, a follow-up phone call is made before a fine of AED 150 is applied.
  • Parking in unauthorized spots or without a valid permit results in an AED 1,000 fine.
  • Overnight parking between 6 AM to 6 PM is prohibited, with violators facing a fine of AED 200.

The introduction of this advanced parking solution offers multiple benefits:

  • Reduced congestion: By eliminating physical barriers, entry and exit times are significantly shortened, preventing long queues during peak hours.
  • Enhanced security: The system digitally records all vehicle movements, minimizing unauthorized access and fraudulent activities.
  • Seamless user experience: With automated transactions and easy payment methods, visitors no longer have to worry about losing parking tickets or waiting in long lines.
  • Better traffic management: The integration of smart parking ensures efficient space allocation, reducing instances of illegal parking or extended vehicle stays.

To help visitors adapt to the new system, dedicated customer service desks and kiosks have been set up within the malls. Staff are available to assist with payments, answer queries, and guide motorists on how to use the system effectively.

Additionally, future enhancements are in the pipeline, including prepaid parking accounts and auto-deduction payment features to further streamline the process.

Dubai’s transition to smart parking is not limited to shopping malls. In October last year, Majid Al Futtaim announced plans to roll out the barrier-free system across its three most popular malls: Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, and City Centre Mirdif.

With an estimated 20 million vehicles using these parking facilities annually, this shift is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion while promoting efficient parking management.
