Guide to Safe Driving in UAE National Day Celebrations

As the UAE prepares to celebrate its UAE National Day, the nation’s roads will be filled with jubilant citizens and residents. However, with the festivities comes an increased risk on the roads. In 2023, the UAE recorded 352 road fatalities, a slight increase from the previous year. These statistics underscore the importance of vigilant and responsible driving during national celebrations.

By adhering to safety guidelines, we can ensure that the spirit of unity and pride is reflected not just in our celebrations, but also in our commitment to each other’s safety on the roads.

Decorating vehicles is a cherished tradition during the UAE’s National Day celebrations, allowing citizens and residents to express their patriotism and unity. However, to ensure safety and maintain public decorum, authorities have established specific guidelines for vehicle decorations.

You are allowed to write or display national phrases that do not insult the modesty of others. Fixing the UAE flag on the vehicle is permitted, provided it does not pose a risk to safety. Furthermore, applying stickers to the sides of your vehicle is allowed.

It is advised  not to cover the front, rear, or side windows with stickers, sunshades, or any decorations that hinder the driver’s view. Changing the original color of the vehicle is not allowed.

Ensure that both front and rear license plates are unobstructed and clearly visible. Avoid modifying the engine to increase noise or performance beyond legal limits. Installing flagpoles or similar items that may obstruct vision or pose safety risks is prohibited.

  • Hanging out of windows, standing through sunroofs, or sitting on vehicle edges is strictly prohibited, as it can lead to serious accidents.
  • Overcrowding a vehicle beyond its legal seating capacity is dangerous and can result in hefty fines.
  • Seat belts should be worn by all occupants, regardless of their seating position, as they significantly reduce the risk of injuries in case of an accident.
